About Vitund
Building the secure foundation that AI agents need to operate safely.
The Problem
AI agents are becoming more capable and autonomous. They write code, make API calls, access filesystems, and interact with the world. But the infrastructure running them wasn't designed for this.
Running untrusted AI-generated code in production is inherently dangerous. Container runtimes like Docker add layers of abstraction, overhead, and attack surface. They were built for microservices — not for sandboxing arbitrary AI agent execution.
We needed something lighter, faster, and purpose-built. So we built it.
Our Approach
Vitund goes straight to the Linux kernel. No daemon processes, no container images, no runtime dependencies. Just raw Linux primitives — the same building blocks that container runtimes use, without the container runtime.
cgroups v2 for resource control. Namespaces for isolation. OverlayFS for disposable filesystems. Seccomp BPF for syscall filtering. And a filtering network proxy for complete network observability.
Five layers of defense-in-depth, each independent, each reinforcing the others. Container-grade isolation at a fraction of the overhead.
The Name
Vitund draws from Old Norse roots — connecting to concepts of knowledge, wisdom, and the act of knowing. In Norse mythology, the pursuit of wisdom often required sacrifice and venturing into the unknown.
Building secure infrastructure for AI agents is its own form of that journey — navigating the boundary between capability and safety, between autonomy and control. The aurora-inspired aesthetic reflects this Nordic heritage: light emerging from darkness, beauty born from powerful forces.
Transparency
Security infrastructure should be auditable. Every line of code that guards your AI agents is open for inspection.
Performance
Every layer of abstraction has a cost. We minimize overhead by going directly to the kernel primitives.
Security First
Defense-in-depth by design. Multiple independent isolation layers ensure no single point of failure.
Licensing
Vitund-Sandbox is available in two editions. The Personal edition is free under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0 — self-hosted on your own server, with the full sandbox runtime included.
The Enterprise edition (coming soon) adds multi-node orchestration, fleet management, SSO, and priority support under a commercial license.
